Right you are then… what’s the connection between Real Madrid’s Second Team former goalkeeper, an International Latin Music hall of Famer, and Bottesford Town’s Head of Media Operations, Howard Pirie’s record collection? We haven’t a clue either, so let’s concentrate instead on the Poachers’ FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round home tie against East Midlands Counties Football League side Radford on Saturday-and the tournament has got Howard’s metaphorical juices flowing, writes Colin Muncie.
Howard told the Bootiful Game that he remains astonished by the contribution of the volunteers at Birkdale Park “I can’t wait to get on the pitch on Saturday in the FA Cup. Lots of work has been done in the summer, everybody doing their own bit. I am so grateful to be surrounded by these people. From sponsorship to promoting; to clerical; to sweeping up, everyone deserves equal praise”.
Howard wants his players to replicate their performance in last week’s season opener. “On the pitch, can we have the same as last week please?” he requested. “As always workmanlike and playing as a team, the new boys have hit the ground running and added to the existing team. Five different goal scorers is testament to that ethos”.
Radford are assured of the usual fantastic BBA hospitality at Ontario Road, but a torrid ninety minutes. “John Corbett (Bottesford Manager) wants a nice run in both FA competitions so we welcome Radford” said Howard “We will treat them well and hopefully send them home to concentrate on the league”.
Howard closed with the answer to our earlier conundrum. “As in the words of Julio Iglesias, let’s “Begin the Beguine” he said.
