Thackley F.C. have been dealt a hard draw in the FA Cup this season, coming up against Whitley Bay in the extra preliminary round. Whitley Bay finished 16th in the Northern League last season, but that’s no means bad as the league is very, very tough so to even be in the Northern League is great, writes Mitchell Radford.
Thackley finished 15th in the NCEL last season but had a change of management as their assistant went to Knaresborough. A good game is in prospect and anything can happen, I’m sure Thackley won’t go down without a fight.
Patrick McGuire Thackley manager had this to say on the game: “There’s never an easy tie with FA Cup games as the financial benefits are huge. It’s something non league teams look forward to and it creates a buzz around the clubs for the players, committee and fans alike.
“We’ve been fortunate to have been drawn at home but that doesn’t mean we can breathe easy; Whitley Bay are a big name in non league football due to the successes they’ve had, but we’ll enjoy the challenge.”
Good luck to both sides!
