Maltby Main face Athersley Recreation in the FA Cup this weekend. Both teams play in the NCEL, but anything can happen in the FA Cup as we know so this should be a cracker, writes Mitchell Radford.
Last season Maltby went out at the extra preliminary round losing to Cammell Laird 4-1 who play in the North West Counties League.
Athersley suffered the same outcome, losing out to West Didsbury and Chorlton 0-5. Both sides will be looking for an improvement on this and something has to give!
Scott Mason Maltby Main manager had this to say on the game “We are coming into Saturday’s game in good shape . We had a cracking training session Wednesday evening and the squad looked good. We all know what playing in the FA Cup is about and what this generates for all clubs at this level. So a good cup run is what we all set out to go on.
“We have a home draw which helps and coming off a good win last Saturday has helped get the lads focused even more. We know Athersley will be coming to win the game and we know the quality they have available. So it will be a tough game and one we all are looking forward too.
But again come 3pm we will have our lads ready to go like we do every game.”
