Writing in the his programme notes for yesterday’s Emirates FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie at home to Sandbach United, Parkgate’s Chairman Albert Dudill emphasised not only the great traditions of the competition, but the opportunity for important additional finance offered by a successful run in the Cup- so he must have been pretty satisfied at five to five after Parkgate had edged a highly-watchable encounter with the North West Counties League side by 2-0 at Green Lane to set up a Preliminary Round meeting at Evo-Stik Northern Premier League side Brighouse Town, writes Colin Muncie for the Parkgate FC Website and the Bootiful Game.
Watched by a crowd of 89-which included the occupants of a coach from Sandbach-Parkgate clinched the win with a goal in each half. After the visitors had started brightly, Brandon Bagley put the Steelmen in front with a flicked finish from a right-wing free kick on 20 minutes, and Lewis Szanto confirmed the victory just before the hour.
Parkgate Manager Billy Fox was pleased with the outcome but felt that the tie could have gone either way. “The result was the most important thing today-and a clean sheet” he told us. “Sandbach played well- and with better finishing it could have been a different story. The star performers today were (Martin) Brissett, (Brandon) Bagley and (Chris) Butt but we still have a lot of work to do”.
“We know that we go to Brighouse next -but we put that on the back burner as we try to get some points on the board on Wednesday against Swallownest”
