Injury to Duerden major blow as Harrogate exit Cup

Harrogate Railway Athletic suffered a 3-0 defeat to the hands of Bridlington Town in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round this past Saturday. Watched by 221, unfortunately for the Harrogate fans in attendance they have seen their side go out one round earlier this season compared to last.

Bridlington were just a little too strong in the second half, scoring two of their three goals to put the game to bed. The day got worse for Harrogate also when two of their players had to go off injured, one with what looks like a serious knee injury.

Brian Harvey Harrogate Railway manager told ‘The Bootiful Game’ “Plenty of effort and energy in the game, everybody worked as hard as they could. Bridlington too good for us on the day, big and strong too, they have some quality players. Two more injuries in the game both our centre halfs came off Matty Duerden with a shoulder injury and Dave Ward. Which unfortunately looks like it could be a serious knee injury. Everybody is gutted for Wardy as he has been excellent pre season.”

Bridlington will now face Garforth Town in the Preliminary Round.
