Nostell Miners Welfare made it five wins from their first six games on Tuesday night as they came from behind at home against fellow NCEL Division One side East Yorkshire Carnegie.
Ryan Williams gave EYC an early 6th minute lead but Nostell came out for the second half flying and Danny Critchlow netted smartly to equalise.
The game looked to be heading for a score-draw but Jack Owen popped up three minutes from time to send the home crowd into ecstasy!
Joint manager Jason Dodsworth was delight with the win which leaves them still at the summit of the standings, “Fantastic reaction to going behind from the lads. We knew they would be a lot harder to beat than Saturday and to be honest we were right.
“We started really well though and should have been in front but Joe Thornton missed a glorious chance from two yards. Then we gave a sloppy penalty away and the hard work started.
“We kept plugging away all half but couldn’t get the equaliser. We just had to keep applying ourselves in the second half as we did in the first and we were confident we would get back in the game.
“We could have been two down straight from the kick off when a great strike from there winger hit the bar and then again quickly after.
A great free kick from Danny critchlow got us back in it and then a fine finish from the tireless working Jack Owen won us the game late on.
“Overall I think we deserved the three points but credit to EYC, they made it really difficult.”
