Bottesford Town have an early chance to consign that midweek League defeat to Harrogate Railway Athletic to history’s filing cabinet when they travel to the Nanparton Sports Ground to face Northern Premier League East Division in the FA Cup Preliminary Round-and although he felt like a millionaire before last week, Poachers Head of Media Operations Howard Pirie has his eyes firmly set on a place in the next round, writes Colin Muncie.
“It’s all about bouncebackability this weekend” Howard told the Bootiful Game. Personal pride and all that. With all due respect to Harrogate Railway we shouldn’t be losing to them if we want to progress from last season. It’s the FA Cup, the greatest competition in the world and if you can’t raise yourself for this then it’s a bad job”
Howard admits that Bottesford will be striding into unknown territory tomorrow-and with a new leader. “We know nothing about Loughborough Dynamo apart from it would be a good score at Scrabble. Andy Sharp is back to lead the team on a caretaker basis as Corbs is away at the Edinburgh fringe to cap a week of comedy off for him.”
Howard isn’t unaware of the financial implications of a good cup run, although he did recommend an unconventional approach to personal evaluation for the Poachers squad. “There’s good money to be had for a club of our size and a win would put a smile back on our faces. It’s time for the lads to look in their underpants and see what’s in there because real men have personal pride. We need to be clinical and decisive on Saturday and leave nothing out on the pitch .Watch this space; the lads will give a good account of themselves- we don’t want a repeat of Wednesday.
