Their are many rules/laws in the game of football but the man in the middle is expected to know and apply them fairly – but last night as Beckenham Town and Epsom & Ewell FC were about to enter extra-time after a 0-0 draw the referee disappeared.
He had indeed gone back to the dressing room to check the ruling surround using a 4th substitute in the FA Cup.
He came back saying that it was not allowed. However it was pointed out towards half time of extra time that the rules had changed this season allowing an additional substitute in ALL FA Cup rounds.
Beckenham ended up winning their FA Cup Preliminary Round game 3-0.
Epsom & Ewell 0 Beckenham Town 0
Delay to start of extra time while referee went back to dressing room to find out if an extra sub is allowed in extra time.
Answer is no because this is the preliminary round.#EmiratesFACup #FACup #RoadToWembley@FACupFactfile @NonLeagueCrowd
