Hallam got back on the winning trail after an 85th minute Gareth Griffiths finish from close range settled a closely contested local derby, 1-0, with Parkgate in Toolstation NCEL Division One at Sandygate last night, in front of a fine Tuesday night crowd of 217-and the Hallam Management Team felt the win was just about deserved, writes Colin Muncie.
Joint Manager Steven Whitehead told the Bootiful Game “It was a tough tie which I thought we edged come 90 minutes and probably deserved the three points. Our goal was a little lucky -but we should be putting or or two of the clear cut chances- that their keeper saved- away to relieve a little pressure. We stuck at it and got a nitty gritty win that is always pleasing for any manager”
“The lads put a great shift in and we will look to train two or three times before our next game against Selby a week on Saturday”
Assistant Manager Dean Bamforth told us that the game had gone pretty much as he’d expected, but he was happy with his much-changed line –up. “As predicted it was a real tough and physical game” he told us.”I thought we had enough chances to be comfortable but when you have loads of new lads it takes time to click; as the game went on we thought it’d be a mistake or bit of luck to win it -and so it proved. We’ll take that all day long though”
“Hopefully with players now returning and fitness levels of the late signings improving, we can kick on”.
