It’ll be a welcome reunion with old friends for Hemsworth Miners Welfare Manager Wayne Benn as he takes his third place Wells side to second bottom Goole Town on Saturday in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division -and before taking his squad to the Victoria Pleasure Ground at the weekend, Wayne spoke fondly of an important spell in his career, writes Colin Muncie.
Wayne told the Bootiful Game “On Saturday we head across to Goole and it’s a game I’m really looking forward to. I really enjoyed my spell there as manager and it will be great for me and Andy Hayward (Wells’ Assistant Manager) to see all the old faces.
“We know we will face a tough game; they haven’t started the season in the greatest of fashion, but we certainly won’t be paying any attention to league positions. I’ve said many times before that there are no easy games at this level and we will have to perform well to get the 3 points we want to keep us among the early leaders.”
“I’m sure that Derry (Robson) and Jeffy (Vikings’ Joint Managers) will soon have Goole moving in the right direction but we want that to be after Saturday” Wayne added.
“It’s a good club, with good people behind the scenes and they deserve a period of stability.”
