Hallam Assistant Manager Dean Bamforth was well pleased following The Countrymen’s 1-0 victory over North West Counties League Premier Division side Bootle.
A late Micah Bishop header was enough to see Hallam through to the First Round and made it three wins on the bounce, leaving Bamforth to eulogise “It was a great day for us, I thought we controlled the game from start to finish barring 15 minutes, which is tremendous against a team from a league above us.
“Tactically we changed from our usual shape to have a look at them and as the game progressed we fancied it. There’s nothing better from a coaching point of view than winnng 1-0 thanks to a set piece we’ve worked on.
“The lads were terrific and we just need to sort the atmosphere in the changing room out and we’ll be ok! Seriously, it’s the best I’ve had.”
Dean also had time to offer up a history lesson ” I spoke to a fan of theirs after and he told me the first Merseyside Derby was actually Bootle v Everton as Liverpool only came about 8 years after so, given our past, the history between us is unreal.”
