EvoStik Premier Division East side Spalding United have today appointed Matt Easton as first-team manager. He steps up from his previous roles with the Tulips following three matches in caretaker charge.
Easton had been working as assistant to Chris Rawlinson since the start of last season.
Chairman Andy Gay told Spalding Today: “I’ve done the due diligence and spoken to people around the club while taking into consideration various factors as well.
“We wanted to know whether he has the respect of the players.
“Everybody came back saying that he has got the changing room and people listen to him.
“I spoke to our director of football Bob Don-Duncan at length due to his vast managerial experience. He told me that Matt is the right man for the job.
“Let’s give him a go because it’s important to keep continuity within the club.
“We said that when Chris replaced Dave Frecklington as well.
“If you bring in somebody fresh from the outside, people at the club could lose their jobs and I didn’t want that to happen here.
“Matt’s coaching record and qualifications say enough that he deserves a chance.
“He is keen to sign up to a different style of play going forward.
“We appreciate during the season that there will be times when the pitches are poor but that’s part of non-League football.
“I thank everybody else who had shown an interest in the job.”
