Winterton Rangers fell to their defeat of the season on Wednesday night as they were beaten 3-0 by local rivals Grimsby Borough in a great game at Bradley FDC.
A subdued and chess-like first half performance saw few chances for both sides as Gary Kasporov and Deep Blue cancelled each other out. However the turning point of the tie came on 40 minutes when a coming together inside the Borough area saw Adam Lee sent for an early bath.
Borough came out strong in the second half, but it was 10-men Winterton who squared a couple of glorious chances. Then Borough with the extra man made Rangers pay when Caine Winfarrah netted on 70 minutes.
Just 11 minutes later Callum Lovitt doubled their advantage. Daniel Barrett and Nathan Collins men pass Marc Cooper the tin of gloss as he settled the Lincolnshire Derby with a cool finished five minutes before the end.
“Obviously I’m disappointed with the result but not the players. The game was fairly even with both teams having chances until we had Adam Lee sent off.
“To play against Boro for 50 minutes with 10-men was always a tough ask. We held on for as long as we could and could of scored two at least.
“We’ll get over this quickly due to the manner of the game and look forward to selby on Saturday.”
