Talisman Mark Simpson bagged another two goals to help Garforth Town take maximum points in a 3-1 win at Thackley, Devonte Newman-Morton netting the other for Town.
Manager Rob Hunter was well pleased with the performance but also highlighted where his side need to improve, as he explained “We came out of the traps really quickly today and could have scored 2 or 3 in the first 15 minutes.
“We were 2-0 up at half time and I’m telling the team that we need to be aware of Thackley really having a go after the break and about managing the game, but it’s something we didn’t do brilliantly, and if we are to impact the top 8 in this league it’s something we’ll need to improve at.
“After Thackley scored, they put us under some pressure and caused us problems but we always looked like we would score again. Mike Thompson was immense in midfield today and Simmo and Devonte were lethal in front of goal which in the end was the difference.
“I feel we are going about our business in the right way and will be capable of causing a few upsets in this league. With the strength of the squad we have, we should not be afraid to play anyone.”
The Miners return to action next Saturday when they travel to Maltby Main.
