Late agony for 16th-placed Thackley last night as Dan Thirkell’s added-time winner took Knaresborough Town to joint top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division at Dennyfield last night in front of a crowd of 68-and Dennyboys Manager Pat McGuire was philosophical as he reflected on the late loss, writes Colin Muncie.
Pat told the Bootiful Game “It was a tough one to take tonight. Football’s a cruel game -but that’s why we love it. We asked for a reaction after Saturday and the lads gave us one. We were untidy for the first twenty and got away with one when they hit the bar, but from then on we settled, put our foot on the ball and tried to play -and probably looked the more likely side to score. Unfortunately we couldn’t find the goal as one goal was always going to win it tonight, but to lose it in the 93rd minute from a corner is frustrating”.
Pat is convinced his side’s fortunes will turn soon. “We just can’t seem to buy any luck at present but the performance has shown me once again what we’re capable of- and if we play like that consistently we’ll win more than we lose” he insisted.
“We’re eight games in to the season and I’m looking forward to the next one -which is another tough test against Hemsworth on Saturday”.
