A disappointing night for ninth-placed Bottesford Town as they went down to a 2-1 defeat at Athersley Recreation- now up to 15th- in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division last night- and Poachers Head of Media Operations Howard Pirie felt that his side weren’t quite clinical enough when it mattered, writes Colin Muncie.
Jack McMenemy put the visitors ahead after just three minutes, but striker Chris Wood -signed late yesterday from Championship side Parkgate -levelled for the Penguins after 18 minutes to send the sides in level in front of the 91 crowd. Chris Walton clinched the three points for Athersley just after the hour.
Howard told the Bootiful Game” I think the table’s printed upside down. We went to Athersley with a depleted squad but still expected to come away with something against a side that hadn’t picked up a point in their previous 4 fixtures. We took the lead early doors and dominated possession for most of game. Our corner count must have been 12 to 1, so it’s Sod’s law that they scored their winning goal from that corner. We’ve now played the bottom two and lost both. Another goal from Jack McMenemy- but others need to start chipping in”.
“We are coupon busters” Howard reiterated, before taking his pundit status to a level not seen before “We need to dust ourselves down and go again for Saturday.
“As in the words of Kamara –Unbelievable, Jeff” “.
