Pirie’s staying away on Saturday as his presence seems to be “off-putting” for Poachers

Ninth-placed Bottesford Town welcome Eccleshill United to the Birkdale Stadium this Saturday in a Toolstation NCEL Premier Division clash – and our own Howard Pirie , Poachers Head of Media Operation ,is still reflecting on last night’s away defeat at Athersley, wondering if his enforced absence this weekend will give Bottesford a psychological boost, writes Colin Muncie.

” I’m still a bit raw after last night”Howard admitted “I am staying away with the wife for the weekend which gives the lads a fighting chance. It can’t be easy for the boys trying to impress me all the time. Once or twice would be nice!. Joking apart, and not wanting to sound like a broken record, we need to regroup and go again. Yo’ure only as good as your last match -which means we are rubbish!”

Howard is expecting TBG to convey news of a positive result from Scunthorpe as he reclines on his chaise long in his favourite smokking jacketsipping on his favourite aperatif .”Corbs ( Manager John Corbett ) will give them a Churchillian speech on Saturday and we will come out fighting” Howard assured us “Let’s just hope come 5 o’clock on Saturday I can raise my Dubonet and lemonade and all is once again right with the world”.

“As a tribute to Leigh Herrick we will have “Needles and Pins” by The Searchers on the bus stereo”
