Thackley may be having a tough time in the league at the moment, but they are absolutely flying in the FA Vase, writes Ian Robinson.
Yesterday’s brilliant 4-1 victory at Litherland Remyca means it’s 12 goals in 3 Vase ties for Pat McGuire’s men and the Thackley boss revealed just how important this result was.
“After a poor run of results, today was massive not just for the club getting to the next round, but for stopping the rot and getting a good feel back.
Before the game I’d have taken a scruffy 1-0 but to go there and come away 4-1 winners is fantastic, although on another day it could have been very different. Litherland are a good side and 4-1 probably flatters us, but whilst they created chances, we also created a lot more than the 4 we scored. We luckily got the rub of the green today which we haven’t had in recent weeks.”
McGuire must now turn his attention back to Thackley’ s stuttering league form which sees them currently occupying 18th place.
“We’ll now look to build on that during training this week in preparation for putting another little run together. Consistency is now the key for us and we’ll be focusing on playing to our capabilities for the full 90+ minutes rather than in fits and starts.”
Next up for The Dennyboys is a must win visit to Harrogate Railway Athletic next Saturday.
