Gill rather upbeat after 5-Star League Cup win

Premier Division Hall Road Rangers brushed aside the considerable challenge of Division One challengers Grimsby Borough in their Toolstation NCEL Third Round tie last night; a result and performance which left Manager, Bill Gill, in upbeat post-match form, writes Colin Muncie.

Rangers were three up at the break thanks to Joshua Tennant (15 minutes) Keiron Walker (20 minutes) and Jacob Norburn (25 minutes). Second half goals from Norburn again (50 minutes) and Fraser Hanson (64 minutes) left the outcome in no doubt to the crowd of 67 watching the tie at Haworth Park.

Bill was in no doubt where the credit lay. He told TBG, “Tonight’s result is all about the lads. It’s great to see smiles on their faces after some recent tough results. The third clean sheet this season, which is a great achievement, because we know when we go the other way we will always create chances.”

“Josh Vickers and Rhys Vazquez didn’t feature tonight,” Bill explained, “and despite their excellent form recently, they showed great attitude to make way for other squad players so that they could get some playing time. This is exactly what a manager needs when forming a squad for the future – it’s admirable. The other pleasing things are that we got starts for Kieran Walker and Charlie Pickering, while David Watts featured off the bench to top off the night and Jacob Norburn got a brace against his old club.”
“Overall, I’m very happy and we look forward to Eccleshill at home this Saturday.”
