It should be a big crowd-and a huge occasion- at West Street tomorrow when Winterton Rangers welcome Northern Football League Division One side Dunston UTS in the Second Round of the FA Vase. The Gateshead side-the UTS refers to the club’s principal sponsor since 2009-are former winners of the FA Vase in 2011/12, beating Billy Fox’s Staveley Miners Welfare in the semi final –and Rangers Manger Rob Watson believes that tomorrow’s opponents provide the best possible yardstick against which to test the progress his Toolstation NCEL Division One league leaders have made, writes Colin Muncie.
Rob believes that all the pressure will be on the visitors. He told TBG “I’m really excited for this game in the FA Vase. Playing against opposition like Dunston UTS will be a good test of how far we have come. I’m hoping we get a good crowd and that we put on a performance they can be proud of. We go into the game with nothing to lose: we know we are the underdogs in this one, so there will be no added pressure from me on the side lines”.
“We have a winning mentality in our changing room and we’ll give it our all against any team -higher or lower in the pyramid”.
