It’s a Wednesday’ite reunion at Rotherham Road as Lee Needham takes his recovering Harworth Colliery side – up at eighteeth position – to his former club, thirteenth-placed Swallownest this weekend in Toolstation NCEL Division One; and Lee is pleased to see the progress being made at the Swal Siro, on and off the pitch, writes Colin Muncie.
Lee told the Bootiful Game that he feared for the playing surface at his old club after the relentless summer. “I am looking forward to going back to Swallownest,” he confessed. “It’s been a while since I have been and I’ve heard the pitch is in much better shape – which is a credit to everybody working hard down there!! I saw pictures of it at the start of the season and I couldn’t see how it was going to be rescued.”
Lee takes his players to Swallownest in fine spirits. “We have had a good run of late, with three fantastic performances and we are hoping to keep the run going,” he told us. “We have a game plan that we will be sticking to, and hopefully we can come away with the three points. Swallownest will – as always – be hard working and physical and they do have some good players so we need to be on it from the off.”
Lee has already assigned who’s round it will be at the Miners’ Welfare – and he’s hoping for an important double in the next 24 hours. “Once again it will be nice to see some old faces and Joel (Evans, Swallownest Assistant Manager) will definitely be buying the beers this time as I got them in the last game,” Lee confirmed.
“There is one result that I, Joel and Jordan all want to see – and that’s Wednesday beat United.”
