PIRIE: “Realistically this is the only trophy we can win, so a strong side will be selected”

Bottesford Town welcome Skegness Town to Ontario Road on Wednesday evening for their Lincolnshire Senior Trophy First Round tie – and for Poachers Head of Media Operations, Howard Pirie, it will be a welcome return to his second home and another opportunity for silverware, writes Colin Muncie.

“It’s a relief to finally have a home game,” Howard told TBG. “I’d almost forgotten what The Stadio Del Birch looks like; those four trips into Yorkshire were physically and mentally draining. I’m so glad we didn’t draw Skegness away on a Wednesday night. Realistically this is the only trophy we can win, so a strong side will be selected. Some people view the cups as a hindrance; but my view is that, if there is a trophy on offer, try your best.”

“Hopefully come Thursday morning we will have got over our Yorkshire lag and can kick on again in the League,” Howard suggested.

“I understand Skegness is bracing – so let’s hope Jack McMenemy can score another couple against them – and send them home with their crab sticks between their legs.”

“Up The Botty!”
