With time running out at Haworth Park last night, James Williamson bundled in a winning goal for Northern Premier League Premier Division side North Ferriby United to move Paul Foot’s Villagers into the Third Round of the East Riding Senior Cup and leave Hall Road Rangers, Manager Bill Gill crestfallen at the late decider, writes Colin Muncie.
After the narrow defeat in front of a crowd of 152 at Dawson Drive, Bill was his usual philosophical self. “Football isn’t fair sometimes, but you have to just accept it and move on,” he said. “To sum things up we haven’t had that bit of quality again in the final third; we have had several very good chances again tonight and not taken one – and at this level that defines you. However, as a team we were outstanding defensively and we did create some really good opportunities, so the lads deserve praise for that.”
“I can understand Paul Foot and Joe Lamplough (Ferriby’s Management Team) not being entirely happy with things in the game from their expectations, but do you know what? They won the game – it doesn’t matter how – and they are in the next round. I would swap that feeling right now than how it feels to have played well and lost.“
“All the best to Ferriby for the season.”
