Toolstation NCEL Premier Division side Bottesford Town advanced to the second round of the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy last night after an entertaining 4-1 win over Skegness Town from Division One – and Poachers Head of Media Operations, Howard Pirie was glad to see a few of his younger prospects give a good account of themselves back at their Ontario Road home, writes Colin Muncie.
Bottesford led 1-0 at the break in front of a Birkdale Park crowd of 62 thanks to a goal from Lewis Bemrose mid-way through the first half. Danny Boulton doubled the advantage after 67 minutes, and although Jordan Smith got the Lilywhites back in the game, two late strikes from Craig Bridge (penalty) and Ben Johnson in added time clinched the home win.
Howard takes up the story; he told TBG, “it was a pleasure to be back home again and we welcomed Skegness after a long trip. We gave some youngsters a run out and they acquitted themselves very well. Skegness do try and play football, so their position in the League surprises me.”
“It was good to get four different scorers on the card and especially a warm welcome back to Danny Boulton, who has been out for nearly a year after knee surgery.” Howard reported, “Ben Johnson opened his account for the season – so that should give him confidence going forward in the season. All in all it was a good workmanlike performance and we are in the hat for the next round. Let’s just hope it’s not away somewhere Deep South of the County.”
“Up The Botty!!”
