Worksop Town suffered their first league defeat since mid-September on Saturday at the hands of Hemsworth MW in the NCEL Premier Division – losing 3-2 at Sandy Lane.
Wayne Benn was critical of his counterpart Craig Denton’s initial post-match comments, but Denton told TBG this afternoon, “obviously we were disappointed with the result, but I think it was a better display than last week. We went 2-0 down, which didn’t help. So, we changed a few things round and a couple of players got the opportunity to show what they’ve got, and then try to get into the eleven. We got our goal just before the half-time break and second half I felt that we started well and we had a few chances. Credit to Hemsworth because they’ve collected the three points and they played well.”
“Our focus is trying to get a points stack on the board and performances raised. We go into midweek, and our training session, where we’ll try to regroup and focus on next Saturday’s game.”
“Hemsworth as a team and Wayne [Benn], have consistency and stability as they have been in the job over a long period of time. Whereas, I’ve inherited a new side and we’ve added players so we are basically quite a new group. I think getting results overnight doesn’t happen, but comes with a lot of hard work.”
“We’ve got to be patient in what we’re doing because I know the club, the fans and people expect Worksop Town to be right up there and beating teams week in, week out. The reality is, that’s not the case. That would be disrespectful to the League and the other players and other teams. I just think it takes a little bit of time and I think as a club and as a side we’re getting there.”
“I’ve got to keep focused on taking the group higher because they were disappointed in not getting the points.”
“We have lots of resilience and we try to keep going until the very last minute and the final whistle, which is a positive. I think if there had been another ten minutes left in the game yesterday then it might have been a different result. It’s full credit to Hemsworth but we’re obviously disappointed.”
