They may have come up just short in their three recent Cup ties with opposition from higher up the League pyramid , but Dronfield have resumed their impressive start to their League campaign with two wins and a draw in the last seven days. Yesterday, they completed the double over Shirebrook Town in their quick fire home-and –away encounters-and after a fine 4-1 win at Langwith Road which sees his side eighth in the table, Dronfield Manager Chris Millington was so delighted by his players display that he told them so, writes Colin Muncie.
The home side went in front after seventeen minutes through Robbie Savage, but Dronfield had turned the game on its head by half time thanks to Richard Mintoft (31 minutes) and Mark Fereday (39) in front of the crowd of 131. Fereday completed his hat-trick with goals after 65 and 81 minutes to seal the three points.
Chris felt that his players reacted well to his requirement for them to be less passive in the early stages of games “We are really happy with the result and performance yesterday” he admitted “ I’ve asked a lot of questions from my players since Tuesday’s performance and they answered them yesterday. I was really pleased with them and thanked them for their effort and commitment after the game”.
Chris is happy to have hit his short term objective before his side head to Kirklees “Last Saturday we set a target of 7 points from the 3 games -and we have achieved that” he revealed “ Shirebrook is always a tough place to go but I think we were full value for the win. We kept our shape and we were clinical in front of goal which was pleasing”.
“ We need to build on this little run we are in moving in to next Saturdays game against Emley who had a good win yesterday”.
