If you heard a Ford Fiesta blasting out “ How am I supposed to live without you “ through its Motorola tape deck as it raced through the streets of Scunthorpe last night , chances are it’s Bottesford Town’s Head of Media Operations and stadium rock lover Howard Pirie heading back to Pirie Towers after his side’s 7-2 win over eleventh-placed Handsworth Parramore at the Birkdale Stadium yesterday-but after ten minutes, it’s not the result many of the 71 crowd might have predicted, writes Colin Muncie.
Lee Cooksey (3 minutes) and Jake Currie (10) looked to have set Parras well on the way , but by the break the Poachers had raced into a 4-2 lead, thanks to Lewis Bemrose (11 and 14 minutes) and Dayle Hutson (30 and 44). Bottesford provided a breathless finish with three more in the last ten minutes; Bemrose completed his hat trick (80) and Jack McMenemy cashed in with a double of his own (81 and 90).
A delighted Howard admitted that the early goals from the visitors served to jolt his side into life “It was a great response from one to eleven today after the disappointments of previous League games” he told TBG “When you’re 2-0 down after ten minutes the easy thing would to give in -but the next goal proved pivotal and from then on we dominated the match. Special praise to Lewis Bemrose- who usually plays second fiddle in the goal scoring stakes, but was our hat trick hero today. McMenemy scored his usual brace as did Dayle Hutson”.
It’s been a fine few days for Howard “7-2 is s great end to the week after winning 4-1 on Wednesday in the Cup” he admitted. The Bottesford rollercoaster is at home next weekend and we are on the up again”.
“As in the words of Michael Bolton “We are back on our feet again, and we can walk proud down the street again” Today is Bottesford Bemrose day. Up The Botty”
