Just seven days separated Shirebrook Town and Dronfield Town playing each other in the league twice, something we have been used to for the opening three months of the season, having seen plenty of shirt turnarounds.
But for Alan Widdowson and his Shirebrook side, it has been a tough week, as after their 2-1 defeat last weekend, following by a midweek defeat by Worsbrough, Widdowson found Dronfield in defiant mood yesterday- running away with a 4-1 victory and those all important three points.
“We started the game in a positive attitude and played some decent stuff. Both teams cancelling each other out. We then scored from a quick counter attack and thought we would push on from there (how wrong was I!).
“From then on Dronfield took a hold of the game and played to there strengths and we had no answer. Going in at half time 2-1 down we had no complaints.
“Second half we started very well, we had plenty of the ball without creating any decent chances. Dronfield then managed the game better than us and scored a further two more goals which killed the game.
“They totally deserved the three points today so fair play to them. We just wasn’t good enough today. That’s football. We have a chance on Tuesday to put things right and I hope we get a positive reaction.”
