McGuire is delighted with the progress his players are making

Regular readers of our humble rag will have noted that draw-specialist Thackley’s Manager, Pat McGuire told the Bootiful Game that he had been tempted to bet his house on a draw ahead of today’s Toolstation NCEL Premier Division clash at bottom side Goole Town. Thankfully, the McGuire family won’t be checking into a hotel tonight despite the Dennyboys fine 5-1 win at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds this afternoon – and Pat is delighted with the progress his players are making, writes Colin Muncie.

The Marcus Street crowd of 93 watched Thackley establish a two-goal advantage thanks to Luke Robinson (6 minutes) and Daniel Broadbent (18 minutes). Jordan Emery got the Vikings back in the contest just after the half hour, but Jordan Hendrie restored the visitors’ two-goal advantage after 36 minutes. Matt Broadley sealed the points with a fourth on 80 minutes, and Hendrie scored the fifth with time running out.

Pat told TBG that he was particularly pleased by the quality of his side’s goals. “Before the game, I’d have taken a scruffy 1-0 win,” he admitted, “but to win in that fashion is tremendous. It’s not anything we’ll get carried away about, as I think a result like this has been coming for us. Some of the goals we scored today were fantastic; but there’s still lots for us to improve on. We’re still a work in progress but it’s beginning to come together. We’ve told the lads to enjoy the weekend as they’ve got the rewards for their hard work today.”

“We now need to take that into Tuesday with the small matter of the Eccleshill derby!”
