Ahead of Worksop Town hosting Albion Sports on Saturday at Sandy Lane, TBG caught up with the young(ish) manager and asked him even though the Bradford-based side are 13th, how tough it will be.
“Yes! Anybody whom you come up against in this league is going to give you a run for your money and try taking points off you. Like I’ve said before, any teams coming to Sandy Lane play in front of 400-plus fans, yet the raise their game by 10 or 20%. So we know we’re going to get Albion Sports plus an extra 20%, which is a tough game.
“Coming off the back of a 1-0 win away at Penistone, which was an unbelievable result but actually a great performance, we go into our game on Saturday in high spirits.
Just one league defeat in 65 days; just over two months. You must be delighted with your recent form?
“It’s great not losing. It’s a brilliant tough run to be a part of and it’s great! It’s testament to the lads of how hard they’ve worked and what they’ve taken on board, what myself and Rob [Poulter] put over in training to the players. The lads have absolutely bought into it. They’ve worked really hard and they’ve reaped the rewards.
“It’s all down to the players’ hard work and their never die attitude. They’re picking up great results with top performances.
“I like how it’s worded! Worksop TEAM and the Manager because it’s all down to everyone collectively. That’s inclusive of people behind the scenes at the club, from the Secretary all the way through to the management team and players. Everyone.
“Together we deserve that recognition and I think Worksop Town and myself should win it this month! Also Matt Sykes has produced week in, week out and what a quality footballer he is so he deserves it as well.
“There are some great players, great teams and managers in the running to win it and everyone deserves to be in it but our lads have worked really, really hard and deserve it!”
