PIRIE: “I want to see blood, snot and tears all over the pitch and then have a pint in the bar, the way non-league football should be!”

Just twenty miles separate Barton Town [ninth in the Toolstation NCEL Premier division] from the Birkdale stadium, home of Bottesford Town [sixth in the table] and hosts for tomorrow’s intriguing local derby – it’s an occasion to which Bottesford Town’s own ‘Big Spender,’ Head of Media Operations, Howard Pirie always looks forward, writes Colin Muncie.

“We welcome our noisy neighbours Barton,” Howard told TBG. “It’s great to have visitors from so nearby and hopefully will mean we get a decent crowd in the Stadio. We are both doing well so it may be a humdinger. We welcome Gaz Barlow (Barton striker) back to his spiritual home – I don’t think he wanted to leave but money talks. It’s good to have two teams from our area in the top division and hopefully next year Winterton as well.”

Howard is expecting a no-holds barred encounter. “When Saturday comes, I want to see blood, snot and tears all over the pitch and then have a pint in the bar, the way non-league football should be,” he insisted.

As in the words of Shirley Bassey, “let’s get this party started.”
