Lights go out in frustrating day for Winterton

The surviving NCEL side in this season’s FA Vase, Winterton Rangers endured a frustrating time today when their 3rd Round trip to North West Counties League side Irlam was abandoned at half time due to floodlight failure after a goal less first half, writes Ian Robinson.

Manager Rob Watson felt his side were the better team, telling us “I’m gutted it was called off. We’ll have to go back there again when this could have been settled today. It’s no fault of Irlam, just one of those things but it just makes it difficult regarding squad availability for when it’s re-played” he added philosophically.

Meanwhile, Rob’s frustrated Assistant Manager Scott Hellewell feels that a change in rules should perhaps be considered in relation to the abandonment. “Hopefully the FA will see sense and make them come to us next week. I thought we were on top today and were comfortable in the game without really creating anything clear cut. The one positive is that we aren’t driving back home straight away as we have the team night out in Manchester.”
