The NCEL’s involvement in this season’s FA Vase ended this afternoon as nine man Winterton Rangers went down 2-0 at home to Irlam in their re-played tie following last week’s abandoned game, writes Ian Robinson.
Goals from Connor Martin and Marcus Perry were enough to see the North West Counties League side through to Round 4, as Rangers became the third NCEL side to fall at their feet.
Winterton’s Assistant Manager Scott Hellewell struggled to hide his disappointment afterwards as he told us “I’m really disappointed with today, in the first half we were the best team, we created chances and stuck to the game plan, but the second half was a completely different game.
They used the wind well and were direct.”
Scott was unsure about the validity of the red cards that were shown, adding “We ended up with nine men which is going to punish us for the league games coming up. I’m not going to comment on the red cards as I didn’t see them clearly but both lads said they weren’t red cards at all.”
“Good luck to Irlam in the next round, but for us, it’s time now to concentrate again on the league which is wide open after today’s games.”
Sixth placed Rangers return to league action next Saturday when they travel to Swallownest.
