MILLINGTON’s obviously on the naughty-list this year as Dronfield leave Campion gift-less!

So close to the perfect Christmas gift for Dronfield Town yesterday; they slugged it out toe-to-toe with deserved Toolstation NCEL Division One leaders Campion at the Kay and Lane Insurance Stadium yesterday before going down by the odd goal in five – but Town Manager, Chris Millington continued – justifiably – to reflect on the bigger picture as he gave TBG his post-match thoughts, writes Colin Muncie.

Danny Wood put the visitors in front on just eleven minutes, but Ben Bodle squared things up just three minutes later in front of the 55-strong crowd at Manningham Mills. After 65 minutes, Jason Carney put Campion in front, and Graham Hall extended the home side’s advantage with just ten minutes left; but Dronfield weren’t finished, and Stuart Hill set up a lively last few minutes with a second goal for Town with two minutes to go. A fine game and strong evidence as to why both clubs are where they are.

Chris wasn’t too disappointed by what he had seen. “I was really pleased and proud of my players performance in quite difficult conditions,” he told TBG. “Campion’s shape caused us some issues early on in the game and we struggled to pick their wide players up due to their movement – but we slowly worked our way into the game. We took the lead but went in 1-1 at half time.”

“If I had one criticism of the lads it’s that we turned the ball over too easily in the second half which meant that we had to change our shape slightly,” Chris admitted, before noting how far the Stonelow Road club have come. “The lads stuck to the job and ran the team at the top of the League really close – which they can take a lot of credit for,” he said. “When we first came in two years ago, we lost 6-1 here – so the progress we have made from then has been great.”

“We still sit within the top eight of the table, which for a club with our resources is positive – and the squad deserve real credit for that.”

The Bootiful Game would like to wish Chris, the Committee, players and fantastic volunteers at Dronfield Town and everyone at Campion FC a very Happy Christmas.
