SIBSON: “Lots of football still to be played though so we won’t be getting carried away !”

An 82nd minute Ashley Flynn penalty secured all three points for NCEL Premier Division league leaders Yorkshire Amateur as they stretched their lead at the summit to 7 points.

Joint manager Neil Sibson was not getting carried away with their current situation, “Fantastic performance today from the lads . We trained well through the week and refocused ourselves with a team bonding / meeting in preperation for the remainder of the season and the boys reacted well after last weeks game.

“Handsworth are a very good side so we knew everybody had to be tuned in today. First half we probably had the better chances in a tight encounter but going on the second period we really turned the screw and to be fair on another day it could have been a lot more with there keeper pulling off some great saves coupled with a few missed chances .

“The lads really did the club and themselves proud today in a high pressure game. I must also give a special mention to Flynny as he’s not been too well so we are indebted to him as once again he came off the bench as in the reverse fixture and grabbed the winner.

“An excellent performance but we know it’s only 3 points and we must go again next week where we have another tough game. Congratulations to all involved at Ammers on and off the pitch.

“We go into the new year sitting at the top of the division. Lots of football still to be played though so we won’t be getting carried away!”
