It has been nearly 1,000 days since NCEL Premier Division side Worksop Town were consistently averaging around the 2 points per game mark – and Manager Craig Denton is pleased with their progress as he looks forward to the trip over to Barton Town on Saturday.
“We know it’s going to be a hard day for us. They beat Penistone at the weekend so I think we need to be a little bit better than we were on Saturday. I just thought we needed that game to blow off a few cobwebs left over from the Christmas period.
On Saturday we tried to stick to the script and collect three points. Which we did, but we know that we certainly need to be a lot better on Saturday when we travel to Barton.”
“I’m happy with from the start of the season to where we are now. I’m always evaluating the squad, looking if we’re stronger and I think we are. We’ve made one or two small additions, which has just made us stronger. We’ve also got lads who have played at this level before so they know the demands of the commitment, with regards to family and things like that. They’re getting games in regularly and training.”
“We’re training this evening (Thursday) in preparation for Saturday and I’m pleased where we were in December but, overall, I’m pleased with the points and where we are now. If you look at where Worksop finished at the end of last season, we had 46 points from 42 games. We’ve played 18 games and have 34 points on the board so, in comparison, we are being quite successful at the moment! Fortunately at the start of a new year, that’s quite a positive position.”
