It was a mixed bag of results in December for Shirebrook Town culminating in last week’s derby day defeat by FC Bolsover, and Town Manager Alan Widdowson is keen to move on, writes Ian Robinson.
Alan, who was visibly annoyed at his sides performance last week had calmed down by the time he spoke to us again, saying “We need to put the disappointment of the Bolsover game well and truly behind us. I’m just hoping it was a one off, an off day as they say.”
Turning to tomorrow’s trip to 7th placed Selby Town, Alan is fully aware of the challenge that lies ahead and doesn’t want to get into a position where the club are having to look over their shoulder. “We know it’s a difficult place to go and get a result. We have just got to start and rebuild our season as we have a run of very difficult fixtures ahead and if we don’t pick up points quickly, we will be down there fighting.
“Our team spirit and desire and determination is fantastic at the minute so we need to put all of that on the pitch for 90 minutes” added Alan. “We are trying to add a couple of new faces to the squad plus we welcome back players from suspension and injury, so we have a selection headache, but that’s what you want from a young squad as every player wants a shirt. Lets hope we can start the new year on a positive note and take all 3 points.”
