It’s all change at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds right now; just before Christmas, Terry Barwick and Matty Bloor were confirmed as the new Management duo at Goole AFC, and on Tuesday, the Vikings revealed that Danny Buttle had rejoined the club as player-coach, arriving from Handsworth Parramore – and ahead of a home Toolstation NCEL Premier Division clash with 15th-placed Albion Sports. Danny told TBG Editor Craig Kendall that he wasn’t the only one desperate to get cracking this weekend.
“Saturday will be a tough game at home to Albion Sports, who on their day can get a result against anybody in this League,” Danny told Craig. “The lads all trained really well on Tuesday; attitudes were spot on and the tempo was high – and we need to take that into Saturday’s game.”
The Division’s bottom club have plenty of reinforcements available as they tackle the Lions at Marcus Street. “There will be many lads making their home debuts on Saturday and are chomping at the bit to get started,” Danny explained.
“Myself, James Hitchcock, Locky (John Lock, club captain), Mo Hamid and Leigh Hutchinson included. Mo is someone I’ve played with very briefly at Handsworth and if he can replicate what he does in training in a game then we will have some player on our hands. As for Hutch, he is unplayable on his day and technically very good; he works very hard for the team and will score goals. I have played with and against Hitchy many times over the years – and I know he is a very good shot stopper.”
Danny is delighted to become part of a strong management line up. “On a personal note I am very much looking forward to working alongside Matty and Terry, both of whom are excellent leaders – and are positive characters who will improve players and staff at the club.”
