The Bootiful Game is always delighted to cut and paste the thoughts of one of our most popular contributors, Bottesford Town’s Head of Media Operations Howard Pirie. Howard is enjoying his football right now, with the Poachers up to ninth in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division. On Saturday though, Bottesford welcome sixth-placed Maltby Main to the Birkdale Stadium –and Howard acknowledges that the Miners are likely to give his side a run for their money this weekend, writes Colin Muncie.
“Maltby Main will be a real test on Saturday,” Howard warned. “They are always well organised and a difficult side to play against. They will want revenge after we inflicted a rare home defeat on them earlier in the season. It’s an open division this season with nobody running away with it – which is a good thing as it brings up some real ‘6 pointers’.”
Howard is delighted by Bottesford’s progress so far this term. “From our point of view, the team have gelled well so far,” he revealed. “There’s real camaraderie in the squad – and with a fair wind we can beat last year’s League position. It will be good to terrify the Chairman if we get close to the top, and it was great to win our last game in the 95th minute, which gives us real impetus going into Saturday.”
Howard reluctantly revealed the pre-decimalisation wage structure on Ontario Road as he contemplated the Poachers’ lofty League position. “Little Bottesford battling for a top five spot, who would have thought it,” he quipped.
“Our top earner is on 4 shillings a week – and some kippers as a win bonus. Long may it continue.”
