RICARDO is expecting to face a waddle of wounded Penguins anxious to put last weekend’s result behind them!

David Ricardo takes his eleventh-placed Barton Town side to Sheerien Park this afternoon to tackle Athersley Recreation, fourteenth in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division – and the Swan’s Manager is expecting to face a waddle of wounded Penguins anxious to put last weekend’s result behind them.

“I expect a reaction from a usually well organised Athersley side from last week’s defeat at home to Hemsworth,” David told slim line (Editors note – “getting there”) TBG Editor Craig Kendall. “We owe them one from earlier on in the season when they defended superbly and hit us on the break, but we are able to call upon some extra motivation not just today but in training Thursday.”

Barton won’t yet be at full strength this afternoon. “We welcome back Tom Bennett from injury but will be missing the likes of Charlie Shelley, Alex Knaggs and Matty Plummer through knocks and long-term injury,” David reported.

“Our aim is three points, but we know we will have to work hard – and box clever.”
