Seventeenth in Toolstation NCEL Division One, East Yorkshire Carnegie head to Rotherham Road this afternoon to tackle tenth-placed Swallownest. Carnegie enjoyed a convincing win in the reverse fixture at Dunswell Park at the end of November, and Manager Leon Sewell is looking for more of the same to get his side’s 2019 points tally under way, writes Colin Muncie.
“It’s another game we are looking forward to,” Leon admitted, “and as always it will be a good challenge for both sides. One of the values we’ve installed at EYC this season is to show our respect for the opposition – but not to fear them. We all know that on our day we are capable of putting in performances that are worthy of us being higher up the League table; but the League table doesn’t lie and like so many sides this season we’ve been too inconsistent.”
Leon’s under-strength side held Albert Dudill’s Steelmen for the best part of an hour last week, and he believes a stronger side would have got a positive result. “We had 8 players missing last week,” he reminded TBG, “and I firmly believe that, had any 4 of the 8 available last week or a squad with a clean bill of health, It would have been a different outcome against a good side in Parkgate”.
“Last week is old news – and Saturday is a new day for us to put the two recent defeats to Winterton and Parkgate to bed and pick up our first points of 2019.”
The Bootiful Game will be at Rotherham Road this afternoon.
