Another super win for Dronfield Town, back up to eighth after a convincing home win over second-placed Winterton Rangers in Toolstation NCEL Division One yesterday. Dronfield had started 2019 in great form, but Rangers arrived at the HE Barnes having won their last three League games, so something had to give – and Dronfield’s Manager, Chris Millington was delighted to see his squad hint at the same levels of consistency they had shown for most of the season so far, writes Colin Muncie.
Christian Savage got the hosts off to the perfect start with a 4th-minute opener, and Danny Wood stretched the lead with a second for Dronfield just before the half hour. The crowd of 72 at Stonelow Road didn’t have to wait too long for a third either, as Wood struck again four minutes into the second half to clinch all three points.
“I thought we were full value for the win today,” Chris told TBG. “We started really well, scoring after 5 minutes which settled us. Defensively we looked solid and I don’t think Lew (Dronfield ‘keeper Lewis Naylor) has had a shot to save – which is credit to the lads’ defensive shape and work rate. We spoke to the lads before the game about putting consistent performances together and that’s two good ones on the bounce now – so credit to them.”
Chris now turns his attention to a ‘local-ish’ derby next Saturday. “The challenge now will be to go in to next week’s game against Swallownest – and try to maintain the standards that the players have set.”
