NCEL Division One side Selby Town were 5/1 to beat National League outfit FC Halifax Town in the West Riding County Cup Quarter-Finals last night – and the bookies must have been slightly worried as The Robins staged a mini-comeback but Halifax held on to a 5-3 win. (Main image by Dave Haddock)
Jamie Fullarton’s side raced into a three-nil lead after just twenty minutes (Jordan Preston (2 minutes), Harry Freedman (8 minutes) and Ousman Cham (20 minutes)).
Selby reduced the deficit midway through the half with Joe Dunnett grabbing the goal. However, Halifax restored a three-goal cushion with a Jonathan Edwards finish.
Preston grabbed his second of the game just after the break, but then two quick goals from Gary Collier (58 minutes) and Charlie Clamp (62 minutes) set the final 28 minutes up well for the 170 spectators.
Both sides had various chances but Halifax progress to the Semi-Final, in a competition they have only won once, in 2013.
