25-year old winger forced to retire following leg break

It’s certainly something that winger Luke Fry had never contemplated as he stepped out onto the field last week for Worsbrough Bridge Athletic Reserves – but just minutes after making his debut a clearance that went wrong caused a leg break – a career ending one at that.

The former Kingston United, Nostell Miners Welfare and Worsbrough first teamer takes up the story of what happened, “I’ve turned to clear the ball and the lad’s stamped down to block it. He has come in way too hard and it’s broke both bones and bent my titanium rod already in place in my tibia.”

“The doctor said I can’t risk bending it any more now so, no choice other than to retire.”
