DODSWORTH pleased as Nostell close gap at summit

Friday night football is not something usually associated with NCEL football, but 223 fans were treated to a superb five-goal thriller as Nostell edged it 3-2 away at AFC Emley.

Nostell were two-up by the break, a third was then added six minutes from time. Emley rallied with two late goals to produce a grandstand finish but the home side couldn’t muster up an equaliser.

Joint Nostell MW manager Jason Dodsworth was pleased with the three points, “The weather in the first half was horrendous and with us kicking into it then it showed how much effort the lads put in to go in 2 nil up at half time.

“We were pinned deep in our own half for periods of the first half and for a few crosses our keeper didn’t really have a save to make. We had to be patient and some great passing led to a fantastic chip from Hancock to put us 1-up. Then the hard working Kane Reece won us a penalty which captain Reece calmly slotted away after a delay and a red card for the Emley defender.

“Second half was full credit to Emley, they could have rolled over when substitute Jack Owen scored a well worked third but they did far from that and pulled a goal back with 10 minutes to go.

“We seemed to think the game was done and switched off and stopped doing the basics and that showed when the Emley forward scored a fantastic goal from a corner. However we hung on and overall deserved the points.”
