Barton Town are still winless in 2019 after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to NCEL Premier Division strugglers Goole, and after a few days rest, Manager David Ricardo gave us his thoughts.
“”Fortunately I had three days booked to go away with the family after Saturday’s game and they were much needed to clear my head after a run of performances which have left both myself, the management team and supporters alike scratching their heads in terms of why we can go and beat the top three sides in the league but then go and get turned over by two of the bottom three sides.
“My original feeling is to apologise for the performance on Saturday to the many travelling Swan fans that paid their hard earned to follow their team however in doing so I feel that detracts from the effort the opposition put in to deserve their victory. The only method of apology that is worth anything is by the lads to turn up on Saturday at home to Albion and get a result.
“Some of the players have used their nine lives now and I know the criticism I have quite rightly received from some quarters re being too loyal to the group and not making changes to the squad sooner is fair. They say that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. This I agree with and the players have to realise that changes have to be made.
“There is no need to go into detail what was said after the Goole game but the players know they get looked after in all manner of ways from the Chairman downwards at Barton and sometimes you have to go elsewhere in order to realise how good you had it. We will work hard at training this week in order to pay back the fans in the only acceptable way, 3 points. “
