Five defeats on the spin had left Barton Town stuck in mid-table and possibly heading for end of season anonymity, but Saturday saw them record their biggest league win of the season as they came from behind to thump Albion Sports 5-1 at The Easy Buy Stadium, writes Ian Robinson.
Sam Denton gave Sports the lead before Gaz Barlow inevitably got on the scoresheet, and second half goals from Jamie Goddard, Donald Chimalilo and a brace from Tom Waudby sent the majority of the 130 crowd home happy. For Manager Dave Ricardo, the victory was a long time coming and he admitted that had the visitors taken their opportunities, it could have been a whole lot different.
“I’m relieved and pleased with yesterday’s performance and result, however in fairness to Albion they could have been three up before we equalised so we have to remember that moving forward.”
“James, Sid and I made some serious changes yesterday and brought Brad in from Pickering and fortunately it worked. I would like to put on record the attitude and quality from the lads coming in from the start and off the bench was first class.”
“I am pleased in particular for the Chairman and Vice Chairman and the army of volunteers, as well as the Swans faithful to see a few goals flying in and the three points. We now have two tough away fixtures to prepare and plan for.”
