MASON: “If I’m honest we need to learn a few things from what Ian Richards has achieved over the last few seasons!”

Last up in our preview’s of today’s games goes to Maltby Main manager Scott Mason. Today they entertain NCEL Premier Division league leaders Penistone Church in a hotly anticipated match-up.

“Penistone visit today and if I’m honest we need to learn a few things from what Ian Richards has achieved over the last few seasons. He’s created a squad that’s won cup finals, got promotions and is now competing again for promotion.

“We are trying to build something at Maltby just like this. I really feel we are getting close and it’s about getting that dressing room right, building that squad and getting the lads to enjoy it and create a togetherness.

“Our lads have been class all season and every season has its ups and downs. We are probably looking at the last few weeks and feeling a little disappointed. But that’s a sign we have a good squad.

“We want to be winning the big games and we are more than capable in doing so. I’m after a reaction after a midweek defeat away to a very good Yorkshire Amateurs side.

“It was the first time all season we’d conceded more than two goals which after around 35 games it’s a testament to what quality we have at the club.

“I’ve looked into what went wrong and sometimes you need to hold your hands up and say I got things wrong. We have eleven league games left and five of the top six to play so if we are at our best I am sure we will come away with some good results over the next few weeks.

“But first things first we prepare for a very tough game today.”
