PIRIE: “Football wasn’t the winner today, referee didn’t have a great game, and the linesman panicked every time someone shouted at him…”

Bottesford Town looked like they were heading for a draw against in-form Staveley MW yesterday, but a late winner from Tomas Poole settled the tie at Birkdale Park.

Adam Baskerville put Miners ahead on 56 minutes, but just 19 minutes later Finley O’Sullivan (75 minutes) equalised. The crowd of 62 however were treated to one last goal, as Poole notched his sixth goal of the season.

Head of Media Operations at Bottesford Town Howard Pirie wasn’t best pleased with the Referee’s performance. “Football wasn’t the winner today, the referee didn’t have a great game, and the linesman panicked every time someone shouted at him and Staveley squealed at every tackle.

“It wasn’t a dirty game but the referee sent Wayne Graves off for a 50/50 challenge in the 15th minute where he was caught first but the young lad for Staveley was on his vinegar strokes with his reaction.

“Sums up our season, one step forward two steps back. Good luck to Staveley for rest of season, good little football side but a little bit “Dancing On Ice” for me.”
