MCGUIRE: “We got out battled in every aspect and it’s left a real sour taste in my mouth!”

After their superb win last week against Eccleshill United, Manager Patrick McGuire thought his Thackley side were on a roll, but as he well knows, their inconsistent form returned and they were defeated 4-1 by Maltby Main at Muglet Lane.

“We spoke before the game about how I don’t think we’ve actually won a game back to back this season, not that I can remember anyway and how we wanted to put that right today. But after a pretty even first-half we came out second-half playing down the hill, thinking it would just happen for us, and we got absolutely spanked.”

“We got out battled in every aspect and it’s left a real sour taste in my mouth. They’re a great bunch of lads but I don’t think we have enough leaders on the pitch which is something we’re going to have to address.”

“After that performance there’s 16 shirts up for grabs next weekend so we’ll see who comes in with the bit between their teeth next week. I expect a reaction and I’m sure the lads will give one.”
